If your pool water looks more like bath water, check out the water trouble shooting guide below or give us a call to get it back to crisp, sparkling perfection.

Most swimming pool water chemistry problems are the result of one or more of the following:

  • Low levels of free available chlorine
  • Incorrect pH, Total Alkalinity or Calcium Hardness
  • Poor or inadequate filtration
  • Failing to test pool water regularly and adjust parameters
  • Lack of a proper pool maintenance schedule

Algae is a common problem associated with swimming pools. Algae multiply rapidly. Once visible, they are present in the billions. Algae can be caused by one or more of the following:

  • No Free available Chlorine
  • Poor or inadequate Filtration
  • Presence of Phosphates in the pool water
  • Failing to test pool water regularly and adjust parameters
  • Lack of a proper pool maintenance schedule
  • Incorrect pH
  • Excessive Stabiliser levels

Cloudy pool water can be caused by one or more of the following:

  • No Free available Chlorine
  • Incorrect pH, Total Alkalinity or Calcium Hardness
  • Failing to test pool water regularly and adjust parameters
  • Lack of a proper pool maintenance schedule
  • Suspended particles as a result of treating pool for an algae infestation

Crusty white deposits on pool surfaces and equipment indicate scale formation. Scale formation can be caused by one or more of the following being above recommended levels:

  • Incorrect pH, Total Alkalinity or Calcium Hardness
  • Total dissolved solids

Possible Causes for Eye and Skin Irritations/Chlorine Odour:

  • Incorrect pH
  • Presence of chloramines (used up free chlorine combined with ammonia, body fats, body wastes, etc)
